Building Tomorrow's Leaders Today

"Partners in Service" - Youth Leadership

"Partners in Service" is a unique youth leadership development program started in 1995. The program is designed to inform, motivate, and increase the social awareness of high school students through four issue-oriented seminars and interaction with community decision makers. The program outcome is an investment in the community’s future.

Our Goals:

  • Develop leadership skills in youth.
  • Provide an awareness of community resources and volunteer opportunities.
  • Build a life-long commitment to the role and responsibility of community citizenship.
  • Provide students with a greater understanding of key issues through interaction and problem-solving with peers and community leaders.

Program Dynamics

Each year, five students, sophomores and juniors, from each LaPorte County high school are selected to participate. The program takes place the last two weeks in February and the first two weeks in March of every year. At the end of the program, five students are selected to help plan, coordinate and implement the following year's program as a way of reinforcing the leadership skills they learned.

Participation is free of charge. All costs are underwritten by LaPorte County business and industry dedicated to youth as the future of LaPorte County. Programs are presented in partnership by the LaPorte County Purdue Extension Office and Leadership LaPorte County.
