LaPorte County Demographics

It is important to include the current demographic and socioeconomic indicators in this study. By viewing trends or developments over time, it is easier to identify and understand the impact of those changes.

The following two sections of this report incorporate demographic and socioeconomic information from the US Census Bureau. Other sources have been included and referenced as well.

  • Population growth in LaPorte County is most significant in older groups. The population ages 45-64 years will increase 6% between 1990 and 2004
  • The number of 25-34 year olds will become fewer. By 2004, this population will decrease by 4%
  • In 1999, the median age for the county was 37.0, up from 34.2 in 1990
  • After years of declining population, the 1990’s recorded positive growth for the county. Since 1990, the population has increased by 2.18%
  • By 2004, minority groups will comprise 13.1% of the population
